While AIDS is commonly thought of as a disease affecting men, many women have been hit by its devastating effects as well. In AIDS: The Women Speak, the viewer learns how AIDS has entered the lives of women, whether it be through direct infection, or as a mother, daughter, friend, or other close companion of a patient. As the AIDS epidemic has raged through continent after continent, more women have become infected.
