Ailill Ochair Ága

Celtic Mythology: Ailill Ochair Ága

Ailill Ochir Ága
[Irish Ailill, edge of battle]

The father of Máel Dúin in Imram Curaig Maíle Dúin [The Voyage of Máel Dúin's Boat]. Ailill was a warrior of the Eóganacht of Ninuss (on the Aran Islands) who begot his son by seducing a nun who had come to strike the midnight bell; the mother died in childbirth and the son was fostered by a queen, a friend of the mother. Ailill was later killed by marauders from Laois.
