Ailuk Atoll from space

Ailuk Atoll is an atoll of 57 islets in the Pacific Ocean, with a population of 488[when?]. It was also known as Krusenstern Island, though this may also refer to other places.

Ailuk is a legislative district of the Ratak Chain of the Marshall Islands. Its total land area is only 2.07 miles² (5.4km²), but that encloses a lagoon of 68.47 miles². The major islets being: Ajelep, Aliej, Ailuk, Alkilwe, Barorkan, Biken, Enejabrok, Enejelar, Kapen and Marib. On the west side of the atoll are found the three main passes that lead in to the lagoon: Erappu Channel, Marok Channel and Eneneman Channel.
