French Literature Companion:

Aimeri de Narbonne

Chanson de geste of the Cycle de Guillaume. The surviving version by Bertrand de Bar-sur-Aube dates from the end of the 12th c. Showing the influence of romance, it tells of Aimeri's capture of Narbonne following Charlemagne's return from Rencesvals, and his struggles to hold the town. It provides the basis of Aymerillot in Hugo's Légende des siècles.
