(Advanced Intelligent Network) The Telcordia/Bellcore version of the "intelligent network," which is the public switched telephone system (PSTN). The AIN provides enhanced voice, video and data services and dynamic routing capabilities by using two different networks. The actual voice call is transmitted over a circuit-switched network, but the signaling is done on a separate packet-switched network known as SS7. See IN and SS7.
