air conduction

The process of transmitting sound waves to the cochlea by way of the outer and middle ear. In normal hearing, practically all sounds are transmitted in this way, except those of the hearer’s own voice, which are transmitted partly by bone conduction.

The atmospheric transmission of sound to the inner ear through the external auditory canal and via structures of the middle ear.
