History
Air Dominicana was incorporated on 9 May 2007 in Santo Domingo with a capital of US$10 million. The airline was expected to begin its operations in May 2008 with a Boeing 737-300, but those services were cancelled, and now the launch date is September 1 2009. Its main purpose was to promote tourism, therefore its main hub was expected to be located at Punta Cana, but now the airline selected Santo Domingo as major hub.
Ownership
Air Dominicana is owned by Air Europa with the Dominican Government as a minority partner. The airline was also owned by Futura International Airways until the airline failed to re-finance itself therefor ceasing operations on 8 September 2008. Air Europa is now expected to take the remaining shares which Futura left behind. Air Europa says it will help the airline in all areas to help Air Dominicana get off the ground with success.
Service Commencement
