AirAsia Philippines is a low-cost carrier based in the Philippines.[2] AirAsia Philippines will have its main hub of operation at the Clark International Airport in Angeles City, Pampanga. The airline is the Philippine affiliate of AirAsia, a budget airline based in Malaysia. The airline is a joint venture between Filipino investors and AirAsia International Ltd, a subsidiary of AirAsia Inc. The Filipino group include Antonio Cojuangco, Jr., former owner of Associated Broadcasting Company with flagship television station TV5, Micheal Romero, a real estate developer and port operator, and Marianne Hontiveros. The joint venture was approved on December 7, 2010 by the Board of Investments, an agency in the Philippines in charge of big ticket investments.

History

Since the Philippine Constitution does not allow 100% foreign ownership of a Philippine-registered business, Malaysian investor Tony Fernandes entered into a 40-60 joint venture with a group of Filipino businessmen. The joint venture application was approved on December 7, 2010 by the Board of Investments of the Philippines.

On August 15, 2011, AirAsia Philippines took delivery of its first brand-new aircraft, an Airbus A320 which arrived at Clark International Airport in Clark, Angeles City, Pampanga. On 8 November 2011, AirAsia Phillipines took delivery of its second A320.

On February 7, 2012, the airline received its Air Operator Certificate[3] from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines which gives the airline permission to fly on Philippine airspace.

On April 8, 2012, AirAsia Philippines has tied up with Victory Liner, one of the largest provincial bus companies operating in the Philippines, to provide free shuttle service for inbound and outbound passengers of Clark International Airport.

Destinations

AirAsia Philippines commenced its operation on March 2012 by utilizing its two brand new Airbus 320-200. Currently, Air Asia Philippines is operating three domestic destinations namely Davao, Kalibo and Puerto Princesa. It will start having flights to Kuala Lumpur on June 9.

AirAsia Philippines first A320-200,registration F-WWIH (to be re-registered as RP-C8189 upon delivery) was spotted at Hamburg Airport,currently in flight testing stages.[6]On 15 August 2011,the aircraft landed safely at Clark International Airport. The second delivery is expected to arrive at year-end of 2011 with two other aircraft deliveries in 2012. The second aircraft registered as RP-C8190 was delivered on 8 November 2011. By 2012, the AirAsia Philippines will have a fleet of four Airbus A320s to serve its foreign routings.
