Ajaokuta is a town in Kogi State, south-central Nigeria, on the bank of the Niger River. As of 2007 Ajaokuta had an estimated population of 15,794. [1] It is located at approximately at an elevation of 54 m, [2] and it is the home of the multi billion dollar Ajaokuta Steel Rolling Mill. [3]
It is not as yet connected to the main railway system of Nigeria, except by river. An isolated standard gauge railway connects the steelworks to its source of iron ore at Itakpe.
