Oman: a mountain range, the great backbone of Oman, meaning the 'Green Mountain' from the Arabic jabal 'mountain' and akhdar 'green'. It is called 'green' only because it is green in comparison with the arid areas surrounding it. The same is true of the mountain range in Libya.
