Plot

Ahmed (Adel Imam) works at two jobs, which makes him a little frantic. He is trying to keep his family in the middle class, and it's quite a struggle. One day he is forced to take a day off in order to arrange with school officials for his children attend a school nearer his home. Due to bureaucratic navel-gazing and the weird inefficiencies and intricacies of the whole process, even a whole day proves to be insufficient to accomplish this apparently simple objective, and he is forced to take another day off from work. His frustration eventually boils over, and he gets weapons and takes over the building. Word of his armed protest spreads, and many others come to join him, even though the official news reports call him a "crazy terrorist." When the authorities finally get around to negotiating, they discover that he has two demands: he wants everyone in the building (hostages and "terrorists" both) to get their fill of shish kebobs to eat, and he wants a little respect. This comedy was wildly popular in its native Egypt. ~ Clarke Fountain, All Movie Guide
