With its robust beat programming and a quasi-cyborg voice that repeatedly barks, "It's tiiiiime!" and "Just feel it!," Hashim's "Al Naayfish (The Soul)" has remained one of the most enduring electro singles since its 1983 Cutting release. The swift, powerful electronic funk rhythm and the eerily drawn-out synth notes help make it as instantly recognizable as anything from Afrika Bambaataa, Egyptian Lover, or Mantronix. The song has spread on dozens of compilations, including the third volume of Tommy Boy's Perfect Beats series.
