Bouchart, Alain (fl. 1471-1514). Author of the Grandes Croniques de Bretaigne, the first published history of medieval Brittany. He was a lawyer by training, ducal secretary in 1484, and maître des requêtes for both Duke François II and King Charles VIII, in whose service he moved to Paris. He retained a lifelong attachment to his native province and its privileges, a major theme of his history.
