Alajärvi is a town and municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southern Ostrobothnia region. The town has a population of 10,642 (30 June 2009)[2] and covers an area of 1,056.76 square kilometres (408.02 sq mi) of which 48.02 km2 (18.54 sq mi) is water.[1] The population density is 10.55 inhabitants per square kilometre (27.3 /sq mi).
The town is unilingually Finnish.
Though a small town, Alajärvi has a few shops, namely Marimekko, Supermarket, Tokmanni, Lidl and a few others.
The municipality of Lehtimäki was consolidated with Alajärvi on 1 January 2009.
