Alamo Lake State Park is part of a 4,900-acre park, surrounding Alamo Lake, Arizona. Located about 38 miles north of Wenden, Arizona, the park's elevation is approximately 1100 to 1300 feet and is located on the Bill Williams River about 30 miles before it empties into the Colorado River. Alamo Lake was formed by the Alamo Dam.
Alamo Lake's waters cover the site of Alamo Crossing, once a mining camp offering supplies and a post office for prospectors. Alamo Lake was built by the Army Corps of Engineers in 1968 as a flood control and conservation dam. The dam rises 283 feet above the streambed and backs up a reservoir of water known as Alamo Lake.
