Alan Brogan (Irish: Ailéin Ó Brógáin) is an Irish Gaelic footballer from Dublin who plays for St. Oliver Plunkett's. He is the son of famous Dublin footballer Bernard Brogan. He can play in the full forward line but usually plays centre half forward for Dublin. In September 2004 Brogan was appointed as St Oliver Plunkett Eoghan Ruadh’s Games Promotion Officer.
Brogan has represented his county, province and country. He won a Leinster Senior Championship medal in 2002, won an All-Ireland under-21 medal with Dublin in 2003 and scored 9 points for Ireland in their International Rules Football victory over Australia in 2004.
In 2008 Brogan was Dublin captain for the Championship, replacing Colin Moran.

Career
2005
Brogan finished the 2005 All Ireland Championship with a total of two goals and twenty points compared to his league total of only three points. He was on the Dublin team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship in 2005 against Laois in Croke Park, he finished the game with a total of one point.
Alan Brogan was named on the International Compromise Rules preliminary Irish squad but opted out due to injury.
2006 All Star Year
Alan Brogan was sent off after two yellow cards in the controversial 2006 national league clash between Dublin and Tyrone. Brogan was suspended for eight weeks in accordance with Rule 140. Ciarán Whelan, Bryan Cullen, Kevin Bonner and Alan Brogan were all exonerated from all charges along with the Tyrone trio of Kevin Hughes, Michael McGee and Owen Mulligan. The official reason given for the exoneration was stated as 'a technicality'.
Brogan finished the 2006 season with only six points in the O'Byrne Cup. His 2006 national league scoring finished on one goal and eight points, well behind his Dublin counterparts Tomás Quinn 3-22 (2-0 pens, 0-13f, 0-4 '45') and Conal Keaney 2-12 (0-6f). He was the winning side for Dublins Leinster Senior football final win over Offaly. He has been tipped, by some(including those at the hoganstand.com) to win an All-Star. Brogan had been showing great form with his club St Oliver plunketts and guided his team into the Dublin Senior Club Football Championship quarter final although, he was a doubt for the match as he was taken off in the match with a suspected broken wrist.[9] The injury proved minor and he went on to take Plunketts as far as a controversial loss against Na Fianna in the quarter final of the 2006 Dublin championship. The club success continued with a Dublin league division two title which gives Brogans team automatic promotion to the top division in Dublin football which is Division one.[1]
He won an all-star for his 2006 performances in the half forward line with Dublin. 2006 continues to be a good year for Brogan as Seán Boylan names him on the Compromise Rules squad to play Australia in the first test at Pearse Stadium on 29 October 2006. Alan was named on the inaugural GPA Gaelic Team of the Year which began in 2006. Brogan was named on the 2006 Dublin Bus/Evening Herald Blue Star football XV at centre half-forward.[2]
2007 2nd All-Star Year
Brogan had a disappointing league campaign with Dublin as his team failed to avoid relegation from division one of the National football league. The league form did not carry into the Leinster Senior Football Championship and Alan won the tournament with Dublin in 2007. Dublin were later knocked out of the competition by Kerry at the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi final. Alan was awarded an all star for his performances at left half forward.
2008 Dublin captaincy
Brogan was named as the captain of the 2008 Dublin senior football team for 2008 and made his debut as captain against Carlow in the O'Byrne Cup. Alan won the Dublin AFL Division 1 title with his club St Oliver Plunketts Eoghan Ruadh. It was the first league title in the clubs history.[3] Alan was on Dublins winning team for the 2008 O'Byrne Cup winning team which defeated Longford in the final.[4] Alan won his fifth leinster title with Dublin in 2008. Dublin beating Wexford by 3-23 to 0-9 to set a new record for the biggest leinster final win with brogan scoring 1-03.[5]
2009
Brogan was a member of the Dublin panel which again won the Leinster Senior Football Championship. However, they were beaten by Kerry in the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship quarter-final.
2011
Alan scored 0-03 points for Dublin against Wexford in the 2011 Leinster Senior Football Championship at Croke Park. Dublin finished the game as Leinster champions with a 2-12 to 1-12 victory over Wexford.[6] In a repeat of the previous years All-Ireland quarter final, Dublin were drawn Tyrone. Alan Brogan produced another solid performance for Dublin, scoring another three points in a game that forward Connolly dominated play. Dublin ended the game with a comfortable victory over Tyrone at a packed Croke Park. The game finished on a scoreline of 0-22 to 0-15 and went on to the All-Ireland senior football championship semi-final against Ulster Champions Donegal.[7] Alan and Dublin had a very tough game against a very defensive Donegal side. Brogan continued his good form but failed to score a goal in a low scoring game that finished on a scoreline of 0-08 to 0-06.[8] Dublin went on to qualify for the All-Ireland final for the first time in sixteen years against historical rivals Kerry. Dublin had not faced Kerry in an All-Ireland final since the seventies but the rivalry ressurected swiftly. Brogan scored two points in the All-Ireland final and contributed another consistently solid performance. Dublin won with a comeback in the last four minutes of the game which finished on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-11 on the 18th of September 2011.[9] On the 21st of October 2011, Alan Brogan was awarded his third All-Star for Dublin and succeeded his brother Bernard as the GAA GPA All-Star Footballer of the Year.[10]
