Students with a prescription for medical and pharmaceutical training get their fill at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). The college offers health care degree programs, including pharmacy, pre-med, clinical laboratory sciences, cytotechnology, and biomedical technology. The school also is home to the Pharmaceutical Research Institute and Center for NanoPhamaceuticals, which focuses on drug discovery and development. A satellite campus in Vermont offers doctor of pharmacy degrees. ACPHS enrolls more than 1,500 students and was founded in 1881. The school changed its name to include "Health Sciences" in 2008. The change was made to better reflect the school's range of offerings.
