Welti, Albert Jakob (Höngg nr. Zurich, 1894-1965, Berne), son of the Swiss painter Albert Welti (1862-1912), trained as a painter before devoting himself to authorship. His works, in some of which he employs dialect, include the plays Spiil ums Füür (1928), Servet in Genf (1930), Steibruch (1939), and Hiob der Sieger (1954); Summerfaart (1942), Inserat 82793 (1943), and Sie aber hats nicht leicht (1950) are comedies, and Hie Schaffhausen (1939), Helfende Kräfte (1945), and Der Paß (1948) are Festspiele. Die Heilige von Tenedo (1943) is a Novelle; his novels include Wenn Puritaner jung sind (1941), Martha und die Niemandssöhne (1948), and Der Dolch der Lukretia (1958).
