Albert Wolsky (born November 24, 1930)[1] is an American costume designer.
Wolsky was born in Paris, France. He graduated from the City College of New York and began an early career in the travel industry. Early into his career he decided to change direction and took an assistants job with legendary costume maker Helene Pons, it was here he was first noticed.
Wolsky soon became a well regarded Costume Designer, working both in Broadway and in the Motion Picture industry. He impressed many directors with his use of colour despite being partially colour blind.
Wolsky had a chain of successful films including Harry and Tonto, The Turning Point, Grease and Manhattan before working with legendary Broadway director Bob Fosse on All That Jazz. It was here that Wolsky hit the big time winning his first Academy Award. He won his second Academy Award for Bugsy in 1991 and has been nominated five other times, most recently for his work on Julie Taymor's Beatles-inspired musical Across the Universe (2007) and Sam Mendes's Revolutionary Road (2008.
Mr Wolsky is currently a Member of the Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
