French family of musicians, principally violinists. The most celebrated members were François (c1761-after 1835), a music teacher and concert director in Lyons, and his brother Paul (c1763-1835), who studied with Viotti and wrote violin concertos popular in Paris and Berlin. The family's collective achievement is represented by the Grande méthode élémentaire pour le violon dédiée à leur père et composée par les fils Alday (Lyons, c 1824), which became widely known.
