EC 1.14.15.4;
recommended name: steroid 11
β-monooxygenase;
other names: cytochrome P450 11B2; steroid 18-hydroxylase; P450C18. A heme-thiolate enzyme that converts 11-deoxycorticosterone to aldosterone, by successive hydroxylations at the 11
β and 18 positions. Reduced adrenodoxin is a reactant, being converted to oxidized adrenodoxin. The enzyme is normally expressed in the glomerulosa region of the adrenal cortex. Mutations in the CYP11B2 gene at 8q22 are associated with an autosomal recessive disorder that is potentially fatal in infants or may be asymptomatic in adults.?
