He was born in Bogotá, Colombia. In 1994–1995 he studied at the Eberhard-Karls Universität, Tübingen, Germany, 1995 the B.F.A. School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University, Medford, MA, 1998 The Boston Architectural College, Boston.
