Aleksandar "Sasha" Pavlović (Serbian Cyrillic: Александар "Саша" Павловић; born November 15 1983 in Bar, Montenegro, SFR Yugoslavia) is a Serbian basketball player in the NBA for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
NBA career
Pavlović, who was selected by the Utah Jazz with the 19th pick in the 2003 NBA Draft, played for the Jazz for one season prior to joining the Cavaliers. He was originally selected by the Charlotte Bobcats in the expansion draft on June 22, 2004,[1] but was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in exchange for a future first-round draft pick the following day[2] (before the Bobcats' inaugural season).
Mike Brown refused to start Sasha or give him significant minutes after Sasha made the following statement, "My offense is my defense". However, Sasha changed his attitude and after a rare appearance in the starting lineup on January 30, 2007, Pavlović scored a career-high 24 points against the Golden State Warriors.[3] Since then, he has seen increased playing time and is now the Cavaliers' starting shooting guard.
In his four NBA seasons, Pavlović has held a very consistent scoring average of 4.8 points per game. Pavlović scored 4.8 points per game in 2003-04 with Utah, 4.8 points per game in 2004-05 with Cleveland, 4.5 points per game in 2005-06 with Cleveland, and was on pace again to score 4.8 points per game in 2006-07 until his breakout game against the Warriors. His current scoring average is up to 9.0 points per game,[4] due in part to averaging 11.2 points per game in February 2007.[5]
During the current 2007 offseason Sasha is a restricted free agent.
International career
Pavlović has chosen to play for the Serbian national team after Montenegro's secession.[6][7] He confirmed this on July 7 2007 and ended the media speculation by announcing that Serbia has always been his only choice.[8]
