Alex McKinnon (born 5 February 1992) is a rugby league footballer currently playing for the Newcastle Knights of the National Rugby League. He previously played for the St. George Illawarra Dragons. He plays at lock, centre and second-row in the National Rugby League.

Playing career

Born in Aberdeen, New South Wales, McKinnon moved to St. Gregory's College in Grade 7 and played his junior football for the Aberdeen Tigers. He then later played all through the St. George Illawarra Dragons lower grades before being making his NRL debut in Round 14 of the 2011 season against the Gold Coast Titans. In that game he played centre and scored 2 tries.

He has signed a 3-year deal with the Newcastle Knights starting in 2012 to be closer to his family in Newcastle, New South Wales and the fact he is originally from the area.[1]

After playing in first-grade for the first 7 rounds, McKinnon was picked in the inaugural Under 20's State of Origin at starting second-row for New South Wales.[2]
