Alexander Martin

Martin, Alexander (c. 1740-1807) Revolutionary War officer, born in Hunterdon County, New Jersey. Martin led his North Carolina regiment in the defense of Charleston (1776) but was accused of cowardice for his performance in the battle of Germantown (1777) and, though acquitted, resigned his commission shortly thereafter.
