Alexandr Petrovich Gorjančikov

Gorjančikov, Alexandr Petrovich (Janáček: From the House of the Dead). Bass. An aristocratic political prisoner, flogged at the commandant's orders as soon as he arrives in the camp. He befriends the young Tartar Aljeja and teaches him to read and write. He is later released by the commandant. Created (1930) by Vlastimil Šíma.
