Alexandra Kerry is the daughter of Massachusetts Senator John Kerry and his first wife, the former Julia Thorne. A graduate of Brown University, Alexandra Kerry later attended the American Film Institute, from which she earned a degree in 2004. Her father became the Democratic nominee for president that same year, pushing Alexandra Kerry and her sister Vanessa (b. 1976) into the spotlight. However, the Kerry sisters didn't become "First Daughters" -- their father was defeated by incumbent George W. Bush.

Alexandra Kerry is often called simply Alex... Her parents separated in 1982 and formally divorced in 1988; John Kerry later remarried, to Teresa Heinz Kerry, who had three sons from her own previous marriage... Alexandra Kerry had small roles in two movies by David Mamet: State and Main (2000) and Spartan (2004).

Alexandra Forbes Kerry (born September 5, 1973) is a film producer and director.

She is the elder daughter of 2004 US Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. Her mother was Julia Thorne, who was married to John Kerry from 1970 until their divorce in 1988. Alexandra has a younger sister, Vanessa Kerry. Both sisters were active in their father's 2004 Presidential campaign.

Kerry graduated from Milton Academy and then studied anthropology and modern culture and media at Brown University where her focus was race relations. In 2004 she graduated from the directing program at the AFI Conservatory after receiving the Richard Rogers award for excellence in directing. Her short film The Last Full Measure premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and won several awards at film festivals across the country. The film was in collection at The Lost Angeles County Museum of Art.

Kerry is in pre-production as the co-writer/director of the film adaptation of Jessica Shattuck's novel, "The Hazards of Good Breeding", scheduled to shoot in 2008. She is a producer of the 2008 documentary film Be Like Others. She is currently producing a documentary based on Naomi Wolf's book The End of America: A Letter of Warning to a Young Patriot. She is also a producer for the documentary The Jena 6, about the 2007 racial trials of six black students in Louisiana.

Her book "Notes from the Trail" is set for release September of 2008. The book is a memoir and art book about the political process of elections.

Kerry currently serves as the executive director at Tar Films and an editor of tar mag, a new arts and culture magazine debuting in September 2008.

She was formerly a stage actress who worked in both film and tv. She had a minor acting role in the 2000 David Mamet film State and Main and she played a bartender in Mamet's 2004 film Spartan.
