Macijauskas, Alexandras (b. 1938), Lithuanian documentary photographer, prominent in Lithuania's principal photographers' association, the Art Photography Society. He made his name with two extensive monochrome surveys of rural life, Market (1969-80) and Veterinary Clinic (1977-84; not for the squeamish). Using a wide-angle lens, he comes in close and low as his subjects—who, doubtless from long familiarity, mostly ignore him—manhandle assets more solid than photography: geese, grain sacks, and gigantic pigs.
