Alexandrau (Adolf) Flechtenmacher

(b Iaşi, 23 Dec 1823; d Bucharest, 28 Jan 1898). Romanian composer, conductor and violinist of German descent. He studied in Vienna. His The Witch Hîrca (1848) is one of the earliest Romanian operettas, which, with his many patriotic choruses and solo songs, made him a pioneer of Romanian music; he founded the Craiova Philharmonic Society and the Bucharest Conservatory (1864).
