Biography

Alfonso el Sabio [Alfonso X] was a patron of the arts and a cultural dynamo during his reign as the Spanish King. With the exception of his collection of songs, "Cantigas de Santa Maria," which demonstrated his concern for understanding, the most important artisic contribution for his kingdom, was the provision of an agora for diverse religious artisans and scholars (Moslem, Christian and Jew alike). ~ Keith Johnson, All Music Guide
