Bernard Herrmann's scores for the classics of Alfred Hitchcock remain the gold standard by which all film music is judged, their superbly wrought drama and tension serving films like Vertigo, Psycho, and North By Northwest in ways no other director/composer collaboration has ever matched. Alfred Hitchcock 100 Years: A Bernard Herrmann Film Score Tribute is a serviceable introduction to their meeting of minds, lacking the cumulative power of any single Herrmann score but effectively sampling his most enduring works; supported by interview snippets with the composer himself, the remainder of the disc includes key themes from the aforementioned pictures, as well as The Man Who Knew Too Much and The Wrong Man, although the new "Murder 1999 Remix" of the theme to Psycho is a travesty. ~ Jason Ankeny, Rovi
