Review

Signatures in Suspense is an excellent retrospective of the best scores from Alfred Hitchcock's long career. The album includes work from Dimitri Tiomkin, Franz Waxman, Bernard Herrmann, Maurice Jarre, and John Williams. As could be expected, Herrmann contributes the lion's share -- almost half of the selections, from Hitchcock's best-known films including North by Northwest, Psycho, and Torn Curtain (the latter of which has four selections included). There are a few notable exclusions (The Birds, Rope), but for the most part, this is the best available collection of Hitchcock scores. ~ Earl Simmons, All Music Guide
