German Literature Companion:

Alfred Windischgraetz

Windischgraetz, Alfred, Fürst zu, also in the form Windisch-Graetz (Brussels, 1787-1862, Vienna), Austrian field-marshal, took an active part in suppressing the Revolutions of 1848-9 (see Revolutionen 1848-9). He checked the insurrection in Prague in June 1848, re-took Vienna in October, and marched against the Hungarians in 1849, but was relieved of his command in April 1849.
