Beye, Alioune Badara (b. 1945). A civil servant and director of the Senegalese publishing house Éditions Maguilen, he has published three historical plays. Le Sacre du Ceddo (1982) deals, like Sembène's film Ceddo, with the struggle between animism and Islam in pre-colonial Senegal. This is also a theme of his latest play, Nder en flammes (1990), which focuses on the martyrdom of a group of noblewomen. His second play, Dialawali, terre de feu (1984), was adapted for Senegalese television.
