a procedure for the recovery of plasmid DNA in which the alkaline conditions chosen for lysis of bacterial cells result in the denaturationof genomic DNA and proteins, which are precipitated when the lysate is neutralized with potassium acetate leaving a solution containing plasmid DNA.
