Review

This collection, which offers up a selection of songs heard on National Public Radio's All Things Considered program, covers a pretty amazing range, from the Basque accordion music of Kepa Junkera to the jam band noodling of Palm Fabric Orchestra. The music is overwhelmingly organic and multicultural, and seems to nearly always be a little bit clever without being too innovative or challenging, all the better to appeal to NPR's core audience of well-educated middle-age professionals. Still, though, this is music that is not often found on commercial radio, and the collection gives exposure to artists who otherwise might not get much attention outside of critics' circles. ~ Stacia Proefrock, Rovi

All Songs Considered is a weekly online multimedia program started in January 2000 by NPR's All Things Considered director Bob Boilen.[1] At first, the show featured information and streaming audio about the songs used as bumper music on All Things Considered. The program has turned into a source of discovery for new music of all genres. One is as likely to hear electronica from the Congo as to hear guitarist Les Paul. In August 2005, the program began podcasting for free.[2] In 2005, it began webcasting and podcasting live concerts from Washington, D.C.'s 9:30 Club, including acts such as Animal Collective, The Decemberists, Neko Case and Tom Waits.[3]

Host Bob Boilen and producer Robin Hilton write a blog where they introduce music from unsigned and unknown bands and solicit ideas for shows from listeners.[4]

In 2007, All Songs Considered became the cornerstone program of NPR Music, the music discovery Web site from National Public Radio.
