Review

All Star Road Band, Vol. 2 delivers more of the lively performance that Ellington and his stars -- who include trumpeters Cootie Williams and Cat Anderson, trombonists Lawrence Brown and Buster Cooper, saxophonists Johnny Hodges, Russell Procope, and Harry Carney, and vocalist Ray Mance -- gave at a dance in Chicago. This volume includes fresh arrangements of standards such as "Satin Doll," "Jeep's Blues," "Summertime," and "Stomping at the Savoy" that sound just as invigorating now as they did in 1964. ~ Heather Phares, All Music Guide
