Allan A. Martin Senior Public School is a middle school located at 1390 Ogden Avenue in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. It is the only middle school providing the International Business and Technology Program (IBT) program in the Peel District School Board.

IBT Program / Entrepreneurial Studies

Allan A. Martin is one of a limited number of middle schools in Canada that offers the International Business and Technology Program (IBT) program. The inaugural cohort entered the program in September 1994.^[1]

Students in the IBT program have the extra class of Entrepreneurial Studies, as well as Learning Lab, which teaches them more about technology. The marks from the Entrepreneurial Studies class are merged with the English marks of the students. Entrepreneurial Studies is a class that teaches students the basics of business.

There are usually 28 students to an IBT class, and each office team has 4 people, therefore there are 7 office teams per class. Office teams are usually formed after the first month of classes. The focus of participation in office teams is the development of effective participation skills.

Students learn about the business world and have many projects that focus on improving the student's character. "The Real Game" is a business simulation; "Hot-dog Stand" is a business venture simulation, and the culminating task of the second year of the IBT program, "The Trade Show," is a real business venture.^[2] In the Trade Show project, students are challenged to create their own business. The products of the students are sold to the public on the Thursday before Mother's Day. All profits are kept.

The S.M.A.R.T. (Science, Math, and Advanced Research Technology) Lab (formerly known as Scantek Lab), which contains the school's video studio and audio/visual equipment, and approximately 30 computers, is also part of the IBT program. The subjects "Science Lab" and "Math Lab" are taught in the S.M.A.R.T. Lab. These classes utilize computers to enhance the learning experience of these two subjects, as well as student productivity. The "Learning Lab" is the other major computer lab (along with the Science Pit), and contains approximately the same amount of computers and other educational resources for students to use. These computers are used for Communications (English, Geography and History) and Entrepreneurial Studies. The school contains more than 280 computers (a 1:1 ratio for IBT students).

Clubs and teams

Clubs

• Chess Club, also has chess tournaments: held by Mr. Lawerence and staff
• Global Awareness club, promotes cultural diversity around the school: held by Mrs. Marko
• Eco Club, promotes environmental awareness around the school community: held by Mrs. Lynes

Technology

• The Tech Team: The school's computer maintenance and A/V team.

Music

• Choir: A choir which sings for in-school events such as assemblies or performances, Arts Alive and Music Night.
• Junior and Senior Band: IBT students must learn an instrument. It is mandatory. All instrumental students separated by grade in Grade 7 and 8 that learn any instrument. They perform at school concerts and other events. Students MUST go in at lunch periods to perform or go to music festivals or Wonderland at the end of the year.
• Stage Band: The stage band is invitational only, or you could ask to audition. This is because Stage Band is made up of the best instrument-playing students. It plays various genres of music such as rock, swing, jazz and funk.

The Arts

• Art Club: A club for free expression, catching up in art class, or embarking on one of the new extra-curricular art projects.
• Arts Alive: A celebration of the school's artistic culture, in visual arts, dance, drama, and music. Held in December.
• Music Night: When students showcase their musical abilities. Choir, grade 8 bucket band, M3 (stage band), gr. 7 band, gr. 8 band and other musical acts perform.
• Musical: The school's musical production of various musicals. This is performed every other year. Auditions are required.
• Drama Club: A club that showcases on Arts Alive, usually performing two Reader's Theatre plays. Reader's Theatre is based on narrating, where the actors hold scripts, while still trying to make the play as realistic as possible.
• Improv Group: A group that performs at Arts Alive with comic routines and skits.
• Dance Club: Groups of students that have come up with their own dances to perform at Arts Alive; songs and methods of dances greatly vary.

• Slo-Pitch Team: Played in May
• Golf Club Team: Held by Mr.Morgan
• Track and field: A team to compete in the Peel regionals every year

Intramurals

• Dodgeball: Students sign up in teams of 8–10. It is a co-ed intramural. 2 girls must be on the court to start the game. 6 members of each team start the game off, and additional players can be added into the game through another teammate catching the ball of an opposing player.
• Volleyball: A team of at least 6 people of your choice. Students are allowed to substitute for absent players.
• Football: Students sign up in teams of 8.
• Athletic Council: A leadership group that performs a variety of services for the school to aid and enhance the athletic ability of the school

Other

• Library Leaders: Help the librarian shelve books and run clubs out of the library.
• Martin Mentors: To promote Martin MERIT in the school.
• Soul Savers: Organize ways to make money for charities.
