Programs

Fine Arts Programs

The Nease Arts program is known as the premier public school arts program on our nation's "First Coast". Nease has staged productions such as Grease, Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, etc. with drama directors such as Sheri Little and jazz-oriented directors of the likes of Douglas Carroll and Nick Albanese. At District Festival 2007, Drama Troupe 4641 claimed an impressive six Critic's Choice Awards and two of four State Playwright selections along with double-digit Superior and Excellent ratings respectively. Every year for the past four, Nease has won an Ensemble Acting Critic's Choice. Districts 2007 became the first time in recent memory that one talented individual has won the Critic's Choice for all of their events. The Thespian Society at Nease includes six officer positions along with an active and diverse membership.

Each year, the theater program produces two main-stage productions: one musical and one full-length play. Additionally, a one-act is taken to District Festival, later to be showcased at the school's Night of Stars and an IB Comprehensive Theater III/IV is produced during the school year.

The Instrumental Music area was inititated by Nick Albanese (Bachelors of Music - University of Florida) and developed by Mr. Douglas Carroll (Bachelors of Education - University of Florida) during his tenure from 1996 to 1999, when the School District doubled from two to four high schools (including Al Dodds, Band Director)in St. Johns County.

Mr. Albanese remains active in F.B.A. activities in the North Florida area while Mr. Carroll supports education-based initiatives via grants works.

Nease Choir is currently directed by Mrs. Laura Adkison. Various Excellent and Superior ratings are won by them each year.

Also, Nease's band program is currently directed by Michael Johnson. A University of Florida graduate. He has brought the band from 40 kids to 160 kids in the past 4 years. Nease's Marching band, 2 years ago, made it past states doing their show 'Way fo the Warrior' which was a great success. This year Nease band is playing their show "Sinfonia" by Bach. They are currently in need of uniform jackets because the band has grown so much. Donations are greatly appreciated in the Nease band environment. Nease band goes everywhere with the football team cheering them on and playing songs such as the infamous 'ESPN', 'All You Can Eat', 'Holiday', and many more.
