Allia

 

Allia, a small stream flowing into the Tiber about 18 km. (11 miles) north of Rome, near which the Romans suffered a notable defeat by the Gauls in 390 BC. The disaster occurred on the anniversary (18 July) of the ambush of the Fabii (see FABIA, GENS) by the Veientes in 479 BC.

Allia, a stream flowing into the Tiber, is 11 miles from Rome and the site of the Battle of the Allia, where Romans were defeated by the Gauls under Brennus in 387 BC (others date it 364 or 390).
