Review

Continuing the more rock-oriented approach of Beauty on a Back Street, Along the Red Ledge is more successful than its predecessor, as the duo landed on a polished melodic pop/rock style that managed to retain their Philly soul influences without drowning their voices in distorted guitar flourishes. They would refine this sound two years later on Voices, the record that established them as pop/rock superstars. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide

Along the Red Ledge is a 1978 album by Hall & Oates.

This album foreshadowed what was to come in a few years for the duo, as the duo shed previous producer Christopher Bond and went with a more polished sound with David Foster. The album is the first studio album where Hall & Oates used their road band in the studio (previously they would rely heavily on session musicians), a trend they would carry through their heyday of the early 1980s.

It was one of the first albums ever produced by David Foster.

"It's a Laugh" has made a resurgence in the duo's live performances over the last several years.

George Harrison, of The Beatles, plays guitar on the track "The Last Time." Todd Rundgren also plays on this album, as does Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick. Robert Fripp, of King Crimson, plays on the "Don't Blame It On Love."
