Alpha Five, a relational database management system published by Alpha Software, Inc., has been continually producing end-user database software since 1982[1] [2]. Winner of Product of the Year award from CRN. Applications can be created against its built-in DBF engine and MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, and ODBC sources[3]. The latest version now incorporates Portable SQL, a feature that allows users to switch database back ends without having to rewrite queries[4]. Alpha Five Version 8 is designed to build both deskop and web database applications. For end users its key benefit is that it does not require programming skills. For professional developers its key benefit relates to speed of development.
