In this short film, ALS expert Dr. Hiroshi Mitsumoto of the ALS Cleveland Clinic Foundation offers an overview of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. While its victims tend to be older, it has been known to strike younger people as well. Dr. Mitsumoto talks about the progressive nature of the disease, the research to find its causes, and a drug designed to extend the life of ALS patients. While the prognosis is generally poor, a well-known patient, British physicist Stephen Hawking has survived ALS for more than 30 years. ~ Alice Day, Rovi
