alternate sponsorship

Marketing Dictionary: alternate sponsorship

Method of reducing costs of sponsorship of a television or radio program whereby two or more advertisers alternate as sponsors on a program-by-program, day-by-day, or week-by-week basis. This is often done for daytime soap operas, which run for five consecutive days every week; each day's programming is sponsored by a different advertiser. Alternate sponsorship allows exclusivity for the time period of sponsorship.
