Business Dictionary: Alternative Hypothesis
 

In statistical testing, a Hypothesis is accepted if a sample contains sufficient evidence to reject the Null Hypothesis. It is usually denoted by H<if>1</if>. In most cases, the alternative hypothesis is the expected conclusion (why the test was completed in the first place).
