Althorne railway station serves the village of Althorne in Essex, England. The station, which is situated on the Crouch Valley Line, is managed by Greater Anglia, who also provide all train services. The station is 8 km (5¼ miles) west of the Southminster terminus.

History

Opened by the Great Eastern Railway, it joined the London and North Eastern Railway during the Grouping of 1923. The line then passed on to the Eastern Region of British Railways on nationalisation in 1948.

When Sectorisation was introduced, the station was served by Network South East until the Privatisation of British Railways.

Service

As of May 2011 the typical off-peak service is one train every 40 minutes to Southminster and to Wickford.[1]
