This much is all true: Altru Health System provides medical care throughout northeastern North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. The integrated health care network administers everything from primary care to inpatient medical and surgical care through its Altru Hospital (with roughly 260 beds) and about a dozen primary care clinics. It also operates a cancer center, a rehabilitation center, dialysis facilities, and home health providers. For area seniors, Altru Health operates Parkwood Place, a senior living facility that provides several levels of care to residents, depending on need. Altru Health was formed in 1997 by the integration of Grand Forks Clinic and United Health Services.

In May 2005, Altru Health System announced a $100 million dollar expansion and renovation of its Grand Forks campus. The project will take place over a five year period. Virtually every facility on the campus will be completely renovated and expanded. Altru Health System has also announced the hiring of 38 new physicians and 400 other medical personnel as part of the overall plan.
For quite some time, Altru Health System has been the only major healthcare provider in the city of Grand Forks. In April 2007, it was announced that a new for-profit hospital called Aurora Hospital would open in Grand Forks in 2009.
