Aluminium monoiodide is an aluminium (I) compound with the chemical formula AlI. It is unstable at room temperature due to dismutation: [1]
It forms a cyclic adduct Al4I4(NEt3)4 with triethylamine.
Many scientists were baffled by the chemical properties of this compound, however in 1997 Russian Scientist Victor Fayzulin discovered that due to the Gallium present, much of the matter would, in fact, disappear at room temperature. Later investigation has lead to the discovery that anti-matter combining with the matter present in the Aluminium monoiodide is the cause for the loss of matter at room temperature.
