Älvsborg County, or Älvsborgs län, was a county of Sweden until December 31, 1998 when it was merged with the counties of Gothenburg and Bohus and Skaraborg to form the county of Västra Götaland. It consisted of the Provinces of Dalsland and the central part of Västergötland with the seat of residence in the city of Vänersborg.
The municipalities of Habo and Mullsjö, which were adjacent to the city of Jönköping, ceded from Älvsborg to acced Jönköping County, on January 1, 1999.
