The Alzheimer type II astrocyte is a pathological type of cell in the cerebral cortex of brain. Alzheimer type II astrocytes are present in hepatic encephalopathy and Wilson's disease.[1] Alzheimer type II astrocytes are enlarged astrocytes with vesicular nuclei and basophilic nucleoli, which appear to be metabolically hyperactive.[2] They are not associated with Alzheimer's disease.
